The Instructor Training program is designed for currently licensed Cosmetologists or Barbers who want to become licensed instructors. This program covers teaching methodology, curriculum development, classroom management, and state requirements for instructor licensing.

Curriculum
600 clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations
Barbering & Cosmetology Act Rules and Regulations
The Barbering and Cosmetology Act as well as the Board's Rules and Regulations and safety measures.
Preparatory Instruction/Instructional Techniques
Classroom preparatory work, curriculum development, methods of instruction, lectures, demonstrations, communication skills, use of instructional aids, and questioning techniques.
Organization Techniques
Scheduling of classes, assignments, student productivity, implementing the 4-step teaching method, performance objectives and learning domains.
Lesson Planning
Lesson plan development for theory and practical subjects of the Cosmetology and/or Barbering programs.
Evaluation Techniques
Learning to assess students objectively in all aspects of the student's course of study.
Conduction of Classroom
Technical instruction and demonstration for three or more students, including criteria set forth by the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology (conducted under supervision of licensed instructor).
Supervising Training of Students
Supervision of students in the classroom and overseeing students performing services on mannequins or paying/non-paying customers.
Additional Practical Training
Additional supervised practical training hours to complete program requirements.
Admission & Materials
What you'll need to enroll and get started
Admission
18 years of age or older
Valid California Cosmetology or Barber license with minimum 3 years of practical experience
Required Materials
Instructor Training materials provided by the institution
All materials included in tuition
Academic Requirements
Grading standards and graduation requirements
Grading System
Students will be tested and receive a letter grade after the completion of each theory course. Tests are typically graded during class, and results recorded on the student's individual grade sheet.
- Letter Grades:
- •90% to 100% = "A" Excellent
- •80% to 89% = "B" Good
- •70% to 79% = "C" Average
- •60% to 69% = "D" Needs to Retake Test
- •0% to 59% = "F" Failed
Students need to retake all tests with scores below 70%. Students must maintain a "C" average for successful progression and graduation.
Overall grades are determined on the basis of the student's attitude and ability to perform elements of the course curriculum: approximately 25% written tests, 50% attendance, and 25% practical performance skills.
Instructor Training students will be assessed at 50% and 100% of class attendance.
